Belgians a natural diet |

Diet,
whether it is yours or your pet's, is a very personal thing. Only you can
decide what you feel comfortable with. Your Vet will probably suggest
Science Diet, or some other "High Quality" pet food. I disagree. I have not been to Medical School or Vet School, but I have
spent a lot of time with dogs.
In the past 28 years I have used every major brand of "Premium" dog food. I was never truly happy with the health of my pal until I began feeding them a "natural diet". There are many ideas as to what a "natural diet" is. We will start with the fact that you cannot purchase a "natural diet" in the pet food aisles of a supermarket or Pet Smart. We feed our dogs raw chicken wings, backs, and necks. We feed them these cuts in particular because the majority of the nutrition is in the bone and marrow. This is the basis of the Billinghurst or BARF diet. I suggest that you read The BARF DIET by Ian Billinghurst. The next portion of this diet officially consists of pureed vegetables, etc. This became a problem in our home because not everyone likes to eat their veggies. So, instead we supplement with INNOVA pet food. INNOVA makes many brands of pet food. To me the main selling feature of these foods is that they only |
contain ingredients that are "fit for human consumption". This is a VERY significant term. There are only 3 other major brands of pet food that can say this. You cannot buy ANY of them at a major chain store. As far as I am concerned, the major pet food companies are putting the worst possible ingredients into their food. Once I educated myself in pet nutrition I came to the conclusion that if "it's not good for me, it's not good for them either". A good book to start the educational process with is Food Pets Die For by Ann N. Martin and Michael W. Fox. There are also many e-mail lists and web sites devoted to the BARF Diet. Our pals have gorgeous coats and pearly white teeth. They have NEVER been bathed and do not have a dog smell or dog breath. They have never been sick and are not overweight. I am truly pleased with their health. For questions or puppy inquiries, call us toll-free at 1-800-334-8467 or email us at little@littletreebandb.com. |
