Dear Guests:

Check-in is from 4pm - 6pm.
Don't lose these directions! There are no street lights or public telephones in the rural areas of Taos (the closest is 6 miles away) nor do cell phones operate reliably. We also serve afternoon refreshments during this period making it a lovely time to get acquainted, settle in and consider your evening's options.

To check-in prior to 4pm, call us early in the day to confirm that we will be here and that your room will be ready.

Call us if you'll be arriving after 6pm.
We are happy to facilitate an arrival time at your convenience. If you are arriving after 6 pm, please call us in advance at 800-334-8467 or 575-776-8467 to let us know.  Unannounced late check-ins can be frustrating for visitors to Taos since there are no street lights or public telephones in the rural areas (the closest is 6 miles away) nor do cell phones operate reliably. It will depend upon your carrier service.

On occasion, we may have dinner plans. If we know you are arriving after 6 pm, we can leave a key packet with directions to your room in the basket hanging to the right of the front door.

DO NOT USE A GPS, MapQuest, Google Map it, etc. ONLY USE OUR DIRECTIONS.
We strongly urge you not to rely on any of the above methods to navigate Northern New Mexico. Our roads are ancient, going back 400 years. Guests choosing to use a these methods instead of our directions have ended up at the local cemetery which is only amusing in retrospect and not funny at all at night! You may also end up 30 miles from the B&B at the dead end of a rough dirt road. Guests have also been directed by these methods that Red River may be reached from Taos Ski Valley - by going over the 13,000 foot Wheeler Peak which has not had a road in 50 years.

Route to The Little Tree B&B from Santa Fe (or the south):

  • Drive north on NM 285/84 to Espanola. Stay on this road ~ do not make any left turn to follow 285/84. The road signage for the road you are on will automatically change its number to NM 68. Continue roughly 60 miles on NM 68 to the intersection of Kit Carson Road (NM 64) and Taos Plaza. (This intersection is where NM 68 from Santa Fe ends and US 64 West comes in from Angel Fire and turns "north".)
  • Drive straight through the intersection - do not turn. You will immediately drive past the entrance to Taos Plaza on your left and then The Historic Taos Inn on your right. Bear left at the fork (a Phillips 66 gas station) ~ stay on the main road ~ otherwise you will end up at Taos Pueblo.
  • Continue “north“ on US 64 West for 4 miles to the Junction of US 64, NM Hwys 522 and 150.
A Conoco station will be on your left.
  • Turn right onto NM 150 driving toward the Taos Ski Valley for 2.7 miles.
  • Turn left onto NM 230 and drive 1.9 miles to the intersection with County Rd B-143.
  • Be sure to look at your odometer. Turn left and drive exactly 2 miles. The Little Tree will be on your left facing the road. Look for the numbers #230, #232 & #234 on a post marking our private road. We have no road signage to preserve the rural feel of our area and so our B&B looks like a residence from the road with Maggie's whimsical kitchen garden in front. The signage is on the front porch. At night, you'll also see a series of red and blue reflectors on our fence posts.

Route to The Little Tree from Cimmaron and Angel Fire (or the east):

  • Take NM 64 West to the traffic light at the intersection with NM 68. (If you go straight, you will be on Taos Plaza.)
  • From this intersection, turn right as US 64 West continues “north”. You will drive past The Historic Taos Inn on your right. Bear left at the fork (a Phillips 66 gas station) ~ stay on the main road ~ otherwise you will end up at Taos Pueblo.
  • Continue “north“ on US 64 West for 4 miles to the Junction of US 64, NM Hwys 522 and 150.

  • About 13.3 miles south of Questa, NM, at the bottom of a long, curving hill, look for the small Hondo River Bridge just after County Road B- 005. Turn left after crossing the bridge onto County Rd B-143. (Herb's Lounge will be on your right).
  • Be sure to look at your odometer. Drive 2.3 miles on County Rd B-143. The road will wind up out of the Hondo Valley. The Little Tree will be on your right facing the road after the crest of the ascent. Look for the numbers #230, #232 & #234 on a post marking our private road. We have no road signage to preserve the rural feel of our area and so our B&B looks like a residence from the road with Maggie's whimsical kitchen garden in front.
